Alliance Hosts Placebo Mitigation Webinar by Elan Cohen, Ph.D.
Dr. Elan Cohen is a PI at Hassman Research Institute with ample experience in rater training and data surveillance. He is also significantly engaged in research exploring various interventions aimed at systemically reducing the insidious placebo and nocebo effects within clinical trials (http://www.hritrials.com/hri-science-division-2/).
Dr. Cohen conducted two separate presentations to attendees from each Alliance site (receptionists, recruitment, lab personnel, raters, coordinators, drivers, etc.), with over 100 attendees, about the pervasiveness of the placebo and nocebo effects as well as targeted methods they can each directly apply to help mitigate these effects. Pre-tests and post-tests of learning advantages were taken.
Many of the attendees reported specifically appreciating learning about key terminology, such as the nocebo effect, the history and impact of these effects, their role in not perpetuating these phenomenon, and the interactive nature of the presentation aimed to engage attendees in this crucial topic area.
The Alliance plans to continue holding such presentations by our expert staff to confirm best practices are communicated within our industry – to ensure that high quality data is provided to all of our customers.
